Southeast Sulawesi
Southeast Sulawesi is a province located in the southeastern part of Sulawesi Island with Kendari as its capital. Covering around 38,067 km², the region includes both mainland areas and major islands such as Buton, Muna, Kabaena, and Wakatobi. Its landscape consists of tropical mountains, pristine beaches, clear turquoise waters, and rich marine biodiversity. The province is home to various ethnic groups including Tolaki, Buton, Muna, Wolio, and the seafaring Bajo community, each preserving strong traditions. Islamic culture is dominant, reflected through rituals, traditional clothing, and social customs. The local economy thrives on nickel mining, fisheries, agriculture, and rapidly growing tourism. Iconic attractions include Wakatobi National Park—one of the world’s best diving spots—Labengki Island, the historic Buton Palace Fortress, and the 100-meter Moramo Waterfall. With its cultural richness, natural beauty, and marine potential, Southeast Sulawesi continues to rise as one of Eastern Indonesia’s most strategic provinces.
